Network File System (NFS)
The industry-standard Network File System (NFS) is supported on virtually every computer platform. Users of heterogeneous networks take advantage of the powerful operating system and network independent capabilities of NFS to access files transparently across different computer architectures, operating systems and file systems. NFS/iX (Server and Client) from Quest Software brings MPE/iX and POSIX users into this realm of transparent file access and sharing across the corporate network infrastructure.

NFS/iX Server
NFS/iX Server allows an HP 3000 to act as a file server for UNIX and PC clients. The MPE/iX file system thereby becomes a virtual subset of the UNIX or PC file system. Text files are converted to POSIX stream files for total interoperability. UNIX and PC clients can access the HP 3000 file system as if it was a local DOS disk drive. In addition, NFS/iX supports printing to MPE printers and/or other networked devices.

NFS/iX Client
NFS/iX Client enables an HP 3000 to share files with other server nodes. It provides transparent file access to file systems on most popular computers, including the HP 9000, Sun Microsystems, DEC VAX VMS, Ultrix, and other UNIX and proprietary systems.

NFS/iX Client gives instant UNIX file access to NFS data anywhere on the network from programs running on an MPE/iX system. All POSIX shell user commands and utilities are fully supported on the remote file system. NFS/iX Client also supports programs which use the POSIX C Library interface, allowing multiple users to access the same information and integrate the data into local applications.
