OFM APM Datasheet (341 Kb) NetVault APM User's Guide (2.1 MB) In todays 24x7 information availability economy, open file management capabilities are a component of any data storage management strategy. NetVaults Open File Manager APM seamlessly integrates into any NetVault backup and restore job management scheme. Capturing open and in-use files through the creation of a point-in-time image, the APM provides the most comprehensive file system protection. The Open File Manager APM automatically provides dynamic image caching in 1Kbyte increments, minimizing on-disk space utilization while providing maximized performance and data integrity. The Open File Manager APM synchronizes the data at a point in time when it is stable, across the entire disk volume, guaranteeing a coherent backup. With the Open File Manager APM, there is no need to close applications or lock out users during a backup. When NetVault executes a backup, a dynamically allocated pre-image cache is created for all open files on the system. Only changed data is stored in the pre-image cache, not entire files. When NetVault reaches a portion of a file that has changed, the Open File Manager APM will substitute the original (pre-write) data from the pre-image cache to fulfill the backup request. The file on tape will then look exactly as it did when the backup process began, therefore guaranteeing the most complete and accurate backup and restore. Complete Protection: Accurate capture and successful restore of files - even if they are open, in use, or changing during the backup. Easy to Use: Point and click selection that seamlessly integrates into the main NetVault GUI. Flexibility: Dynamically created cache use only the amount of space required. Innovative: Disk-based so anti-virus and other file-based applications do not interfere with the integrity of the backed up data. Centralized Administration: Manage more - all backup and restore operations may be administered via a central location, including the installation of client modules. Non-intrusive: Does not interfere with other, open applications writing to disk. Additionally, it adds no noticeable overhead to the systems on which it resides.
