NetVault offers a new level of Enterprise storage management capability with the introduction of our VaultShare APM, providing ACSLS drive-sharing capabilities on the Linux, MP-RAS, Solaris and Windows NT/W2K platforms, along with enhanced NDMP support for ATL GbE, EMC ip4700, NSS, Procom, NetApp and Spectralogic Gbe storage devices. Highlighted Features for NetVault VaultShare Drive Sharing NetVault VaultShare offers optional support for ACSLS drive devices attached to an ACSLS storage server, enabling enterprise-class backup and recovery for ACSLS environments with NetVault. NDMP for Network Attached Storage (NAS) NetVault delivers the most feature rich solution for NDMP on the market today. Employing a simple Point-and-Click user interface, NetVault's SAN/NAS convergence support is unparalleled by employing SmartClients and Dynamically Shared Devices (DSD) technology for ATL GbE libraries, EMC ip4700 filers, Procom, Spectralogic GbE. For Network Appliance users, NetVault now offers support for Direct Access Restore functionality, enabling faster data retrieval than traditional tape-based retrieval. Additional NetVault Features Disaster Recovery - Bare Metal Restore VaultDR APM, the new disaster recovery APM for NetVault, adds bare metal recovery functionality for Intel-based operating system platforms, including FreeBSD, Linux, NetWare, SCO OpenServer, Solaris X86, Unixware, Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000. It provides the capability to create a block-by-block disaster recovery image of NetVault clients, without re-installation of the operating system.VaultDR includes the VaultOS boot utility and a wide variety of device drivers supporting the most popular NIC and SCSI HBAs available today. Open File Management In todays 24x7 information availability economy, open file management capabilities are a component of any data storage management strategy. NetVaults Open File Manager APM seamlessly integrates into any NetVault backup and restore job management scheme. Capturing open and in-use files through the creation of a point-in-time image, the APM provides the most comprehensive file system protection. The Open File Manager APM automatically provides dynamic image caching in 1Kbyte increments, minimizing on-disk space utilization while providing maximized performance and data integrity. Simple, Powerful SAN/NAS Support NetVault's SAN and NAS support is exceptional, designed for the network storage environment from the very start. Native features such as DirecSAN, provide the ability to dynamically share tape and optical drives among heterogeneous systems. NetVault's NDMP module seamlessly blends NAS filers together with virtualized tape pools for maximum storage utilization. With the ability to mix SAN and NAS systems together with a full suite of Application Plugin Modules, NetVault delivers time-to-data recovery performance at a fraction of the cost of proprietary solutions. NetVault's collective approach optimizes and synthesizes storage, server, client and network resources to provide you with unparalleled backup and restore performance. Virtualized Network Storage NetVault leads the way with network-based storage virtualization. Sophisticated network device load-balancing, dynamically shared drives, virtual disk libraries and high-availability fail-over to alternate IP addresses, provide one of the most robust and non-disruptive virtualization schemes available today for heterogeneous network storage environments. Application Plugin Modules (APM) NetVault's APM's provide hot backups of your application. That means no downtime during the backup process. NetVault's modular architecture, with its unique Application Plugin Modules feature, sets new standards in application backup support with simple point and click installation. When you select a specific application for backup scheduling, the APM automatically tailors the GUI on the fly, mirroring the applications own GUI characteristics. This is possible because of seamless precision integration between the GUI and each APM. Consolidated File System Backup Never run a full backup again and take full control of your data. NetVaults consolidated file system backup feature uses incremental backups to create a full backup and index. This user-defined feature allows you to take any number of incremental backups and build a new full file system backup based upon the last incremental and last consolidated backup. As backup windows continue to shrink, along with growing storage demands, consolidated backups ensure that full data protection is accomplished within the time frame available. DVD RAM Support Add and manage DVD media with the same point and click simplicity of adding NetVault tape drives. Because DVD write performance is typically slow, NetVault compresses data before writing to media - nearly doubling performance. Disk Staging Backups can easily be sent directly to a hard drive or disk for improved performance. Disk Staging minimizes the impact on the network and acts as a buffer allowing media drives to operate at maximum speeds and provides the ability for automatic data replication during off-peak hours. It can also be used for off-site backups at remote storage sites. SAN LAN-Free Backup Unclog multi-user backups. Unleash exponentially higher backup speeds. Free up your LAN. NetVault's advanced architecture speed backups directly from servers and clients to tape drives across a SAN. Share all of your library tape drives among multiple backup servers and clients. NetVault's simple and intuitive GUI makes configuring your SAN a snap. Library Sharing LAN-Free Backup NetVault still allows LAN-free backups for non-SAN environments. With NetVault's Library Sharing, servers and clients attach directly to a tape library, with SCSI direct connections to the tape drives, bypassing slow networks and greatly reducing the backup window. SmartClients Add intelligence to a SAN or NAS with NetVault SmartClients. SmartClients are enabled with the ability to control a locally attached media device. A SmartClient can call data from all clients on a network and move that data to storage without going through the server. Dynamically Shared Drives (DSD) Through our Dynamically Shared Drives (DSD) plugin, you can share all of your tape hardware resources among all NetVault servers and clients - in SAN or NAS environments. You can increase availability through dynamic failover of your backup data to a standby drive if the preliminary drive goes down. TurboVault TurboVault is a performance enhancement typically only found in enterprise level solutions and provides the user with the ability to allocate the amount of memory shared between the CPU and NetVault according to available memory and native speed of the backup tape device. Also included is the ability to adjust data transfer block sizes to be used in conjunction with the memory allocation. This allows the user to tune and control data transfer to meet their requirement. Network Compression Transfer speeds can more than double across the network when using this feature, simply reducing backup time. NetVault does the compression of data at the client before it is sent across the network thereby reducing the time it takes to transfer the data. Heterogeneous Client Support This feature supports the mix of heterogeneous NetVault Clients (NT, Unix, Windows, Novell and Linux) within a NetVault Domain. High Speed Tape Devices New higher speed tape devices such as LTO, Super DLT and others, are being introduced into today's market. NetVault with its advanced architecture combined with our included TurboVault, easily supports these new devices and is designed to maximize the tape drive performance.
