DLT has quickly become the preferred backup media in the Open Systems environment because DLT provides both the capacity and performance demanded by data-intensive applications and features a much longer drive life. The technology also offers the best error-detection and correction specifications in the industry. DLT makes backups faster, safer, and more convenient, but only if the backup software supports DLT and its enhanced capabilities. BACKUP/3000 was the first advanced backup solution to support DLT drives on the HP3000.

Highest Capacity
DLT is a very high-capacity technology, storing up to 70 Gb or more on a single cartridge*. BACKUP/3000's data compression can be used to further increase the amount of data that can fit on each cartridge. BACKUP/3000 can store to and restore from multiple DLT drives in parallel, thereby permitting backups that require more than one cartridge to be done to two or more drives. BACKUP/3000 takes further advantage of DLT's high capacity with its appended backup capability, which allows multiple backups to be appended to a single cartridge.

Fastest Backup
By optimizing backup data, front-ending data transfer with highly-efficient software data compression, varying the number of processes, and increasing the number of backup devices, BACKUP/3000 is able to achieve the highest possible data throughput rate, especially on high-end systems. BACKUP/3000 and DLT together offer backup speed exceeding 20 Gb per hour to a single backup device. And BACKUP/3000 can utilize up to 64 backup devices in parallel for store and restore.

Fastest Restore
Fast backups are great, but speed also counts on restore. When your system is down, every minute counts. BACKUP/3000 will locate any file on the DLT media within 70 seconds on average. And BACKUP/3000 also supports multiple devices in parallel on restore, further increasing the speed of recovery.

Highest Reliability
The reliability specification for DLT tape media is about 5 times higher than for DDS and 8mm. DLT's error detection and recovery is also superior to DDS and 8mm technologies. Using BACKUP/3000 and DLT together further improves backup reliability. BACKUP/3000 makes it easy to set an expiration date on each tape so it is not overwritten prematurely. BACKUP/3000 can also automatically verify a backup after it is finished.
