ORBiT Software is proud to announce that recent benchmark tests of our Backup+/iX product software yielded backup speeds exceeding 1GB/Minute.

The system under test was an HPe3000 Series 997/1200 with 16 gb of main memory. The 90gb of data was distributed over 27 disks.

Store Tests:

The store sets were two of HP's standard benchmark accounts. Each account consisted of both databases and the applications that were needed to run those databases. The restores involved restoring only a database for each application and then verifying it could be opened and read by TurboIMAGE.

These were controlled benchmarks, and each test needed to be repeated to verify results. This data was highly compressible. Other tests were run using various levels of compression and no compression. The interesting tests were the no-compression tests, because they indicate the maximum raw throughput of the data. In this test, it took 2 Hrs and 23 Mins to backup the 90 gb to three tape drives. That indicates that the data rates we are seeing should be around 13 gb/hr to a single drive with zero data compression.
